Haitham bin Saqr Al Qasimi opens an exhibition "Specters of the good old days"

Kalba, 9 October / WAM / Sheikh Haitham bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Head of the Office of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah in the city of Kalba, opened the “Spectres of Beautiful Time” exhibition at the house of Sheikh Saeed bin Hamad Al Qasimi, in the presence of Maysaa Saif Al Suwaidi, Director of the Sharjah Museums Authority.
The exhibition – which is organized by the Sharjah Museums Authority and continues until May 31, 2026 – showcases new artworks by Emirati artists Abdul Rahim Salem and Najat Makki, produced specifically for the exhibition over a period of 8 months and displayed for the first time.
The paintings deal with social life and Emirati identity through artistic visions that vary between realism and abstraction. Abdul Rahim Salem presents paintings that reflect the local environment and society, while Najat Makki highlights the symbolism of Emirati women and their vital role through contemporary works.
Her Excellency Aisha Rashid Dimas, Director General of the Sharjah Museums Authority, said: “This exhibition embodies our vision of highlighting art as a means of preserving heritage and transmitting Emirati values to generations in a contemporary visual style.”
The exhibition aims to highlight Emirati heritage and human values and enhance the connection between generations through art, reflecting Sharjah’s vision of supporting culture and arts as a means of learning and self-expression.
The opening ceremony included a popular art show that evoked the spirit of the place, specifically a tree more than 100 years old located in the house of Sheikh Saeed bin Hamad Al Qasimi, and inspired the artist Najat Makki in her work “An Unmissable Presence,” which symbolizes the continuity of memory and identity.
The exhibition also includes accompanying activities, the most prominent of which are an interactive art workshop and the “Fawala” program on December 22nd, which is a special dialogue session for women hosting the artist Najat Makki to talk about her artistic experience.
