The International Conference on Radiation Protection concludes its work with the participation of 600 experts

ABU DHABI, 10th October, 2017 (WAM) – The Eighth International Conference on Radiation Protection System, organized by the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation in cooperation with the International Commission on Radiation Protection, concluded yesterday in Abu Dhabi. It lasted for three days, with the participation of more than 600 experts, researchers, and decision-makers from 55 countries.
The participants discussed more than 120 presentations on various topics, including medical applications such as proton and heavy ion therapy, the use of artificial intelligence in radiation protection, environmental protection and control systems, and topics related to the protection of individuals and workers in this field, in addition to ways to protect astronauts from the dangers of radiation in space exploration.
The conference witnessed an exhibition that included the presentation of more than 175 scientific research from various countries of the world, where the latest developments, new methodologies and future trends in the field of radiation protection, research and technology were reviewed, reflecting the spirit of innovation, global cooperation and continuous progress in this field across science, medicine and industry.
The event also included the presentation of the Cousins Award to young scientists and professionals, in honor of the contributions of the next generation of experts committed to enhancing radiation protection standards at the global level.
Christer Viktorsson, Director General of the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, said that hosting this international conference in Abu Dhabi for the second time represents a privilege and a responsibility at the same time, and reflects the UAE’s firm commitment to promoting global dialogue, scientific excellence and cooperation in all areas related to radiation safety, expressing his appreciation for the fruitful results achieved during the conference.
The results and recommendations issued by the conference will contribute to supporting the work of the International Commission on Radiological Protection in reviewing and updating the radiation protection system, and developing the next set of general recommendations for the international community.
