"Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation" Launches the fifth season of "Future Science Challenge"

Dubai, October 10, 2017 – The Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences launched, yesterday, Thursday, the fifth season of the “Future Science Challenge” in the Arab world, which is one of its educational initiatives aimed at enhancing scientific research skills and innovative thinking among talented Arab students in the fields of artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things.

The challenge will be held this year under the slogan “Tourism and Hospitality”, in line with the UAE’s trends and its national strategy for artificial intelligence, and the Foundation’s keenness to link applied education with vital sectors in the country.

The challenge aims to develop students’ abilities, inspire them to acquire new skills, expand their cognitive horizons, and encourage them to employ modern technologies to solve realistic challenges using innovative scientific methods.

It also seeks to enhance students’ active participation in developing their society through applied projects that anticipate the future and instil the values ​​of innovation and sustainability.

The fifth season’s competitions revolve around creating technical solutions that contribute to developing the tourism and hospitality sectors, raising the quality of services and enhancing the sector’s sustainability, by employing artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things to design distinct experiences for visitors.

His Excellency Humaid Mohammed Al Qatami, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences, said in his speech on this occasion that the Future Science Challenge represents a model of applied education based on student innovation and expanding the horizon of knowledge related to scientific, economic and cultural activities in Arab society.

He added that, through its fifth season, the institution continues its commitment to providing a scientific platform for students that enables them to apply theoretical knowledge in practical projects that have a clear societal and economic impact, and in a way that enhances educational trends based on creativity and innovation.

He explained that choosing the theme of tourism and hospitality for this year reflects the institution’s keenness to align the challenges with development opportunities, and to encourage students to develop solutions that contribute to improving the quality of life and the sustainability of vital sectors.

His Excellency directed the various participating teams from Arab countries to take advantage of the student gathering opportunity to exchange knowledge, skills and educational experiences, and to work on building partnership relationships to serve the development of educational performance and contribute to serving the Arab community.

The challenge includes a specialized training program to qualify supervisors and students, and provide them with the basics of artificial intelligence and Internet of Things technologies, so that they can design creative and innovative solutions in this field. These solutions will then be presented to a specialized jury of professors, engineers, and experts in the fields of science and technology, to select the winning teams according to the criteria of creativity, impact, and quality of implementation.

The final results will be announced and the winning teams will be honored during April 2026.
