"Sharjah Relations" Discussing with an Italian delegation the opening of a branch for "Dante Alighieri" In the emirate
SHARJAH, October 10, 2017 (WAM) – During its meeting with an Italian diplomatic delegation yesterday, the Sharjah Government Relations Department discussed the prospects for cooperation and exchange of experiences in the fields of culture and knowledge, in addition to discussing the possibility of opening a branch of the Italian Culture Institute “Dante Alighieri” in Sharjah, which will enhance the emirate’s position as a pioneering center for cultural communication between the East and the West.
Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, Head of the Department of Government Relations, welcomed the delegation at the “House of Wisdom” in Sharjah and chaired a meeting held on the sidelines of the visit, which was attended by Sheikh Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, Director of the Department, and from the Italian delegation, His Excellency Andrea Vincenzoni, representative of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for Cultural Affairs, Alessandro Massi, Secretary General of the Dante Alighieri Institute, and Alessandro Salacone, Director of International Relations at the Institute.
The Italian delegation was briefed on the experience of the “House of Wisdom”, as an innovative model of knowledge institutions that embodies Sharjah’s vision of developing a cultural environment that is not limited to providing sources of knowledge, but rather creates an incubating environment for dialogue and creativity.
The two sides discussed future cooperation opportunities between the Italian Culture Institute and cultural institutions in the emirate, which would contribute to supporting Sharjah’s efforts to build international partnerships with the most prominent global centers and institutes concerned with spreading language and culture and enhancing knowledge exchange between peoples.
Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi said: “This visit reflects the strength of the cultural ties extending between the Arab and Italian worlds and the well-established commonalities between the ancient cities of Italy and the Emirate of Sharjah in the service of human thought. From this standpoint, Sharjah is keen to consolidate its presence in international cultural events and exhibitions in Italy in a way that enhances dialogue and translates the emirate’s vision of building bridges of cooperation with the most prominent global institutions concerned.” With culture and knowledge.”
He added that cooperation with the Dante Institute carries a deep symbolic dimension, as the poet Dante, with the global literary heritage he represented, intersects with the Arab cultural heritage in his praise of the values of common human thought. The presence of a branch of the Institute in Sharjah will open new horizons for cultural and linguistic exchange and enhance the emirate’s role as a center that embraces knowledge, dialogue, and communication with world civilizations to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development.
It is noteworthy that the visit confirms Sharjah’s status as a cultural capital that places knowledge and creative exchange at the heart of its international relations and seeks to be a comprehensive platform for human experiences and a space for cultural convergence.
