The UAE national team wins over its Omani counterpart in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup

Doha, October 11 / WAM / The UAE national football team achieved a precious victory over its Omani counterpart, 2-1, in the match that was held today at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in the Qatari capital, Doha, in the second round of the first group competitions in the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
With this victory, the national team raised its score to 3 points, topping the group, while the Omani team’s score stopped at one point. A draw against Qatar in the next confrontation scheduled for Tuesday is enough for our team to officially qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
The UAE national team succeeded in converting a goal deficit into a two-goal victory, as the Omani national team took the lead in the 12th minute with a goal that came after a shot from Issam Al Subhi collided with defender Kwame Aton and entered Khalid Issa’s goal by mistake.
In the second half, the UAE team imposed its advantage, and the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology canceled a penalty kick awarded by Australian referee Ali Reda to our team as a result of obstructing Ali Saleh in the 72nd minute.
Marcus Meloni succeeded in scoring the equalizer with a perfect header after a cross from Ali Saleh in the 76th minute, before Caio Lucas added the winning goal in the 84th minute with a powerful shot from outside the area that surprised the Omani goalkeeper.
Goalkeeper Khaled Issa excelled in the final minutes of the match, after repelling several dangerous attempts, preserving the team’s lead until the final whistle.
