"National Archives and Library" and"Zayed for people of determination" They celebrate White Cane Day

Abu Dhabi, October 14th / WAM / The National Archives and Library, in cooperation with the Zayed Authority for People of Determination, celebrated International White Cane Day, which falls on October 15th of each year, by organizing a group of events and activities directed to people of determination from the blind category.
Naima Abdul Rahman Al Mansouri, Director of the Blind Care Department at the Zayed Authority for People of Determination, stressed the importance of the white cane as a symbol of independence and self-reliance, and that celebrating this occasion embodies awareness of the importance of supporting people with vision and empowering them in various areas of life.
In a speech she delivered during the ceremony, she appreciated the cooperation of the Archives and the National Library and its continued support for the Authority’s initiatives, stressing that this cooperation reflects the commitment of national institutions to their responsibilities towards people of determination, noting that International White Cane Day is one of the important global occasions in which the Zayed Authority is keen to participate and demonstrate the services provided to the blind.
For his part, Hamad Al-Humairi, Director of the Research and Knowledge Services Department at the National Archives and Library, said that the white cane represents a symbol of strength and determination, explaining that the National Archives and Library paid special attention to those with vision by printing a number of its national publications in Braille, such as the book “Zayed from Challenge to Union,” and the booklets “Khalifa: A Journey to the Future” and “Qasr Al-Hosn,” in addition to providing devices for converting Texts written into Braille.
He stressed that this celebration comes in the Year of Society, as an embodiment of the National Archives and Library’s commitment to the national and humanitarian values established by the wise leadership, praising the cooperation of the Zayed Authority for People of Determination and its constructive and fruitful coordination with the Archives and the National Library.
Omar Al Omari, who is blind, spoke about the UAE’s legislative efforts to empower people of determination, reviewing Federal Law No. 29 of 2006, and the National Policy for Empowering People of Determination of 2017, which focused on promoting health, social protection, family empowerment, and community participation.
In turn, Saif Al Falasi, Director of the Legal Affairs Department at Dubai Police, reviewed his inspiring personal experience in the education and work process, stressing that family and community support played the greatest role in enabling him to achieve his ambitions and reach leadership positions.
The celebration activities included an exhibition of modern devices and technologies for the blind, held at the headquarters of the Archives and the National Library, and included some modern innovations that support their empowerment and enhance their opportunities to benefit from advanced technology, in addition to a symbolic march of the white cane, artistic and poetic performances, and interactive competitions, which reflected the spirit of determination and community integration, and a tour of the two halls of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al. Nahyan, and Sheikh Surur bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, during which the insightful guests viewed historical collectibles and documents documenting the Union’s journey and highlighting the state’s achievements in the various stages.
