المملكة: Al-Ghamdi: The Kingdom’s support for global humanitarian work under the slogan "Human first"

The Assistant General Superintendent confirmed King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Works for Planning and Development Dr. Aqeel bin Jumaan Al-Ghamdi, said that the Kingdom’s firm support for global humanitarian work comes under the slogan "Human First"

This came during his participation as a representative of the Kingdom in a donor group meeting to support the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) at the expert level in the city of Geneva in the Swiss Confederation, in the presence of representatives of 30 member states.
This came to discuss developments in the reset plan and reforms in the work of the OCHA office, in addition to discussing the budget and priorities for humanitarian work in light of the financing challenges and ways to enhance international coordination.

Enhancing coordination

Al-Ghamdi stressed that strengthening coordination between The donor group and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs represent a fundamental pillar to ensure that aid reaches the most needy groups, and that an effective humanitarian response cannot be achieved without clear mechanisms that determine priorities for directing resources towards necessary and urgent interventions, especially in light of the funding gap facing the humanitarian system.
He explained that humanitarian diplomacy is a pivotal tool for humanitarian work. And the coordination performed by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, as it contributes to reaching peoples affected by disasters and crises, citing the Kingdom’s prominent role in hosting the Jeddah talks on Sudan, as humanitarian issues were included in the negotiating agenda to establish peace and facilitate urgent intervention, which contributed to securing humanitarian corridors.

He pointed out that Saudi diplomatic efforts in Gaza It had an important role in opening humanitarian corridors during critical times, which enabled the entry of food and medicine to those affected.

Humanitarian Reset Plan

The participants discussed the latest developments in the Humanitarian Reset Plan and the role of the OCHA office in enabling coordination by supporting local partners in the affected countries, in addition to the mechanisms for setting extremely important humanitarian priorities, and discussed the implications of the 2026 budget, which It will witness significant reductions that will directly impact the operational capacity of the office, especially field humanitarian coordination work.
They stressed that the current stage represents a critical time for international humanitarian work, which requires strengthening partnerships and intensifying solidarity among donors to confront the funding gap and ensure the sustainability of the response to humanitarian disasters.
The meeting concluded by raising recommendations. To be discussed at the next high-level meeting scheduled to be held in New York during December 2025, in preparation for taking practical steps that contribute to bridging the financing gap, enhancing coordination, and ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches those who deserve it.
