Dubai, 8 March / WAM / Pledges from international humanitarian and charitable organizations and individual contributions from major donors amounted to more than one billion and 49 million dirhams, and the “Noble Number” charity auction for special numbers, which took place today in Dubai, recorded 91 million and 405 thousand dirhams in support of the “End Life” campaign to save 5 million children from starvation, which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. “May God protect him,” in conjunction with the holy month of Ramadan, to provide at least one billion dirhams to be invested in combating child hunger in the world.
This outcome came from charitable auctions on 29 distinctive vehicle license plate numbers and mobile phones, which amounted to 91 million and 405 thousand dirhams, and contribution pledges worth 276.36 million dollars (1.014 billion dirhams) from international humanitarian and charitable institutions, and 35 million and 816 thousand dirhams individual contributions from major participating donors, announced during the Ramadan Suhoor organized by the Foundation. “Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives”, at the Armani Hotel Dubai in Burj Khalifa, which brought together an elite group of charitable leaders and business leaders in cooperation with His Excellency Badr Jaafar, the Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Business and Charitable Affairs.
These contributions and the proceeds from the auction, which was organized by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation in cooperation with Emirates Auctions and with the support of the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, E&Emirates and Du, go to the “End Life” campaign to save 5 million children from starvation, which comes in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Save the Children, the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, and Action Against Hunger, to contribute to providing food and protecting children from starvation. His Excellency Mohammed Al Gergawi pointed out that the size of the contribution pledges announced by prominent international humanitarian and charitable institutions during the Ramadan Suhoor, which was organized on the sidelines of the “Noble Number” auction, reveals a deep understanding of the challenges facing the world in order to eradicate hunger, and a deep appreciation for the UAE and the efforts of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation to save children from the dangers of hunger and the serious repercussions resulting from food scarcity.

Contribution pledges during the Ramadan suhoor came from the Aga Khan Foundation in the amount of $100 million (367 million dirhams), the Gates Foundation in the amount of 50 million dollars (184 million dirhams), the Edelgive Foundation in the amount of 50 million dollars (184 million dirhams), the Aliko Dangote Foundation in the amount of 5 million dollars (18 million dirhams), and the Tata Trusts in the amount of $50 million (184 million dirhams). $20 million (73 million dirhams), the Piramal Foundation with $50 million (184 million dirhams), and the Dalio Charitable Foundation with $1.36 million (5 million dirhams).
Individual contributions from major donors participating in the Ramadan Suhoor also came from His Excellency Badr Jaafar, Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Business and Charitable Affairs, amounting to 10 million dirhams, Patrick Chalhoub, Chairman of the Chalhoub Group, amounting to 5 million dirhams, Mahdi Amjad, founder and CEO of the Omniyat Group, amounting to 5 million dirhams, Hussein Daoud, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Engro Corporation, amounting to 5 million dirhams, and Michael Lahiani, founder. “Property Finder” with a value of 5 million dirhams, Abdullah Al-Sheikh with 5 million dirhams, and 816 thousand dirhams from a number of shareholders.
The auction, which was organized at the Armani Hotel Dubai in Burj Khalifa, witnessed the sale of 29 distinctive numbers, including 9 distinctive license plate numbers belonging to Dubai Roads, 10 telephone numbers for “E&,” and 10 numbers for “Du.”
Charitable auctions for distinctive license plate numbers recorded a total of 81 million and 500 thousand dirhams, the numbers provided by “E&” amounted to 1 million and 905 thousand dirhams, and the numbers provided by “Du” amounted to 8 million dirhams.
