Bapco Energies participates in Tree Week activities

Mark Thomas, CEO of Bapco Energies – the integrated energy group that is leading the transformation of the energy sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain – confirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain, in light of the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the country and the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, is keen to improve the quality of life of citizens and residents through national plans that contribute to enhancing sustainability and security. The environment and its dedication as a general culture in society and the preservation of natural resources.
The Group’s CEO praised the launch of Tree Week by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, and His Highness’s directives to organize the innovation competition in irrigation solutions, which aims to encourage creative ideas and solutions to develop irrigation solutions and expand their networks in public areas, thus contributing to enhancing afforestation efforts, increasing green spaces, and sustaining water resources in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Thomas pointed out Bapco Energies’ commitment to adopting sustainable environmental policies and allocating budgets to afforestation projects, in support of efforts to implement the goals of the National Afforestation Plan, which aims to plant 3.6 million trees by 2035, in fulfillment of the Kingdom of Bahrain’s vision of reaching carbon neutrality by 2060, explaining that the group aims to raise environmental awareness and promote the culture of afforestation among new generations.
He said, “As part of our commitment to sustainability, Bapco Energies continues its support of the Green Ticket Initiative in partnership with the Bahrain International Circuit. This initiative continues in its fourth year by funding the planting of mangrove trees throughout Bahrain, equivalent to 5,000 trees during the year 2025, with the aim of promoting the national goals of quadrupling the coverage of mangrove trees by 2035.”
Thomas added, “We are working to plant thousands of trees and local plants in the vicinity of the group’s refineries and industrial facilities, in addition to using modern and innovative technologies, which contribute to achieving an impact in improving air quality and reducing temperatures by increasing green spaces and enhancing biodiversity through afforestation projects that provide natural habitats for local birds and animals, in addition to water and resource management plans.”
In line with the directives of His Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect him, Bapco Energies and its subsidiaries organized a program to celebrate Tree Week in partnership and cooperation with the National Initiative for the Development of the Agricultural Sector, where engineer Basma Al Mahrous, CEO of Tawzeed Company, participated in the event of launching the fifth phase of the “Stay Green” initiative, which is taking place in the Southern Governorate and included the planting of the Zallaq Youth Empowerment Center in the presence of His Excellency Mrs. Rawan bint Najib Tawfiqi, Minister of Youth Affairs, and Her Excellency Sheikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary-General of the National Initiative for Agricultural Sector Development.
Al Mahrous: The interest of the wife of the country’s monarch in afforestation and sustainability issues is an inspiring model of community and environmental leadership in Bahrain.
In her turn, Eng. Basema Al Mahrous, CEO of Bapco Tawd, confirmed that the interest of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of the King of the country and President of the Supreme Council for Women, in afforestation and sustainability issues is an inspiring model of community and environmental leadership in Bahrain, and has created a qualitative shift in community awareness and individual behavior, and has contributed to building a healthy and sustainable environment for current and future generations.
Al Mahrous explained that Her Highness’s adoption of the “Stay Green” initiative, which reached its fifth stage this year in the Southern Governorate, contributed significantly to increasing the green area, improving the quality of the environment, and enhancing community awareness of the importance of agriculture and afforestation.
The CEO of Bapco appreciated the efforts of those in charge of the National Initiative for the Development of the Agricultural Sector and its role as a strategic initiative in implementing large-scale afforestation projects in various regions of the Kingdom, in addition to targeting various segments and groups of society and establishing awareness campaigns and community events to promote the culture of agriculture and afforestation and involving various state institutions and agencies and the private and private sectors.
It is hoped that Bapco Energies will conclude its activities on the occasion of Tree Week, by holding an event to plant trees in the area adjacent to the main headquarters and operations center of Bapco Gas Company, located in the Sakhir area, on an area exceeding one thousand square meters, with the participation of a number of the group’s volunteer employees.
