"Hypochondriasis" He is crowned race champion "Queen Elizabeth II" At a festival "Royal Ascot"

LONDON, June 20, 2017 (WAM) – The colt “Al-Maraq”, with the “Shadwell” logo and under the supervision of trainer William Haggas, was crowned champion of the “Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes” for the first category “Group 1”, designated for purebred cross-bred horses, over a distance of 1,200 meters on grass, in the main half of the closing day of the prestigious British “Royal Ascot” festival, which was held today.
“Al-Miraq” achieved an exciting victory under the leadership of jockey Tom Marquand, after winning the race by a nose against the Japanese horse “Satono Reef”, while “Jolestar” finished third by only a short head, so the final photo will be used to determine the first three places.
Sheikha Hessa bint Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum received the winning cup from Queen Camilla, in a new achievement added to the record of Shadwell horses in the most prominent international track races.
Marquand’s participation came on the back of “Al-Maraq” in place of Shadwell’s main rider, Jim Crowley, who is continuing to recover from a leg injury he suffered as a result of a fall during a race in York last year.
Marquand said after the victory that the first thing he thought of after crossing the finish line was Jim Crowley, noting that the horse and rider suffered a severe fall at the end of last season, and that Crowley deserved to be a partner in this achievement.
Crowley expressed his happiness with Al-Maraq’s victory, praising the work done by trainer William Hagas and his team to return the horse to its best condition after the long recovery period that followed the fall accident.
Hagas confirmed that Al-Maraq needed a long time to regain his readiness after his injury last year, explaining that his preparation program during the spring took place gradually, which helped him rise to this level of competition and achieve his first victory in the first category races.
He added that the horse still has a large margin for development due to his lack of participation, suggesting that his next destination will be the Yulay Cup race.
