Salem Abdul Rahman defeats the world number one in chess

Sharjah, 15 October / WAM / International master Salem Abdul Rahman, a player for our national team and the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, defeated Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, ranked first in the world, in the Titled Tuesday International Blitz Chess Championship, which was held online with the participation of 401 players from the world’s elite.
The UAE champion scored 6.5 points out of 8 rounds, with an exceptional performance against one of the most prominent chess stars in the world.
Abdullah Murad Al Mazmi, head of the technical staff at the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, said that the victory reflects the position that Salem Abdul Rahman has reached among the elite world champions, and it is a great artistic and moral achievement, to continue his brilliance in the upcoming tournaments.
He added that the player Salem Abdul Rahman continued his series of distinguished results, including his crowning of the Chase.com Championship and other distinguished milestones that established his position on the international scene, praising the great support of the club management headed by Sheikh Dr. Khalid bin Humaid Al Qasimi, and its keenness to provide all the requirements to achieve achievements and raise the UAE flag in various international forums.
