Muhammad Al-Sharqi witnesses the conclusion "Fujairah International Conference on Calligraphy and Ornamentation" In its second edition, it praises its role in reviving Islamic arts

FUJAIRAH, 19th October, 2018 (WAM) – His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, stressed the importance of reviving Islamic arts, reviewing their aesthetics in human heritage, and presenting the most important specialized artistic and academic experiences from around the world.

This came during His Highness’ attendance at the conclusion of the second session of the Fujairah International Calligraphy and Ornamentation Conference, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Fujairah Hotel, accompanied by Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, son of His Highness.

His Highness pointed to the interest that the Fujairah government, under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, attaches to cultural and artistic projects that contribute to disseminating Arab-Islamic arts in all their forms, preserving them through their presence in various forms of expression, and supporting the vision and directions of the UAE in the culture and arts sector.

His Highness visited the art exhibition accompanying the conference, in which professors and artists from various countries of the world participate with their works in the field of calligraphy and decoration.

His Highness also witnessed a lecture entitled: “Uncovering the Manuscript Heritage of the South Arabian Peninsula,” in which Dr. Michael Erdmann, Head of the Middle East and Central Asia Collections at the British Library in London, spoke.

Dr. Israa Al-Hamal, Director of the School of Calligraphy and Ornamentation in Fujairah, said in her speech during the closing ceremony of the conference, that the conference sessions this year were diverse to be a dialogue space for exchanging ideas and knowledge to enrich the field of Islamic arts in its various forms and contribute to the development of the culture and arts sector worldwide.

His Highness honored the speakers at the conference, which witnessed the participation of an elite group of academic and artistic institutions from around the world such as the United Kingdom, Italy, Austria, Spain, Turkey, Japan, and Pakistan, in addition to Arab countries such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, and Lebanon.

During the days of its holding from October 18 to 19, the conference included 18 specialized research papers that discussed pivotal issues related to the history, philosophy and aesthetics of Islamic arts.

The conference witnessed a contemporary presentation through the lecture “From Sacred Geometry to Generative Code,” which presented a modern approach to integrating elements of Islamic decoration with digital design tools.

The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, Director of the Office of His Highness the Crown Prince of Fujairah, His Excellency Hamdan Karam, Director of the Private Office of His Highness the Crown Prince of Fujairah, and a number of directors and officials in the Emirate of Fujairah.
