Today… European talks to discuss China’s restrictions on rare earth exports

The Commissioner responsible for industrial strategy is held at The European Union Stephane Ségournet urgent talks on Monday with European industries affected by the restrictions imposed by China at Exports of rare earths.
China, the world’s largest producer of minerals used to make vital magnets for the automotive, electronics and defense industries, this month announced new controls on the export of Rare metals.
The European Union reported that these restrictions forced some companies in the bloc to stop production and caused economic damage.
Response to the Chinese restrictions
Brussels is also coordinating with its partners in the G7 on how to respond to the Chinese restrictions.
Sigournet will hold a meeting with officials Executives from various industries via video link early Monday morning to assess the consequences of the Chinese restrictions, and discuss further steps that Brussels will take.
The meeting will include members from the automotive, defence, wind energy, chemicals and metal processing sectors, especially those linked to European raw materials projects.
Sigournet is scheduled to share details of the talks on Tuesday. With the European Union Commissioners during the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France.
