The UAE participates in the meeting of the International Peace and Security Committee at the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva

Geneva, October 20 / WAM / His Excellency Dr. Marwan Obaid Al Muhairi, member of the Parliamentary Division Group of the Federal National Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, participated in the meeting of the International Peace and Security Committee, held within the work of the 151st General Assembly of the Union in Geneva, Switzerland.
Al Muhairi said in an intervention by the UAE Parliamentary Division on the topic “The Role of Parliaments in Establishing Strong Mechanisms for Post-Conflict Management and Restoring a Just and Lasting Peace,” that parliamentary work after conflicts must be based on three basic pillars: rebuilding trust, strengthening the rule of law, and achieving sustainable development, noting that the UAE is one of the leading countries internationally in providing aid and humanitarian initiatives, supporting reconstruction, and empowering affected groups. conflicts, in addition to adopting national legislation that protects society against extremism and violence, and enhances the protection of women and children and human rights. It also undertakes pioneering efforts at the regional and international levels in mediation, promoting intercultural dialogue, and supporting peace initiatives.

Al Muhairi stressed the importance of continuous evaluation of parliamentary efforts in cooperation with international partners, calling for strengthening parliamentary oversight of policies and budgets to ensure their compatibility with the needs of international peace and security. He stressed that parliaments are among the most important institutions for achieving justice, building confidence, and consolidating sustainable peace.
His Excellency also presented the intervention of the UAE Parliamentary Division on the issue of policy related to arms control, non-proliferation, and the upcoming arms race, in which he pointed out that this issue constitutes a fundamental pillar of international security in light of modern challenges such as the spread of weapons of mass destruction and the accelerating militarization of advanced technology. He stressed that the world needs broader parliamentary participation to enhance oversight of humanitarian agreements and prevent the militarization of technological innovations.
He pointed out that the UAE is committed to a clear approach in supporting non-proliferation and disarmament processes, by joining relevant international treaties and enacting strict national laws to combat illicit arms trafficking.
He stressed that preventing an arms race is a responsibility that requires the cooperation of all countries and parliaments, describing parliaments as representing the voice of the people and the basic guarantee for maintaining international peace and security. He noted the necessity of investing in future generations to build a culture of peace and human coexistence.
