"Energy and infrastructure" Participates in a regional workshop in Jordan

Amman, October 23 / WAM / The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure participated in the regional workshop on strengthening national and local capabilities to address climate risks in water and transportation infrastructure, which was held yesterday in the Jordanian capital, Amman, organized by the Islamic Development Bank, and in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

The workshop aimed to support regional and national efforts in the field of adaptation to climate change in the water and transportation sectors, through the Infrastructure Vulnerability and Adaptation Assessment Protocol (PVEIC Protocol), which is a scientific tool to assess the extent to which vital infrastructure is affected by climate risks and develop flexible plans to deal with them.

The workshop also discussed a group of nature-based solutions and their role in enhancing the resilience of communities and infrastructure, in addition to reviewing successful international experiences in integrating climate considerations into national plans to develop the water and transportation sectors. The event witnessed wide participation from representatives of Arab countries and a number of international and regional organizations and academic bodies, in addition to an elite group of experts and specialists in the fields of climate change, urban planning and sustainable infrastructure.

The participants stressed the importance of exchanging experiences and enhancing cooperation between countries in the region to confront the effects of climate change, stressing the need to adopt integrated methodologies that contribute to building a flexible and sustainable infrastructure and support the achievement of the 2030 sustainable development goals.
