After a full month…electricity was restored to the Zaporizhya nuclear station

Declared International Atomic Energy Agency Today, Thursday, electricity supply was restored to the Zaporizhya nuclear in Ukraine after an interruption that was the longest since the start of the Russian invasion, lasting a full month.
The restoration of electrical supply to the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, which has been occupied by Russian forces since March 2022, came after the repair of an off-site power line, thanks to a ceasefire in the region.
The agency indicated in a post on the X platform that restoring electricity to the station is a very important step. For nuclear safety and security.
It explained that it continues to work with Russia and Ukraine to allow the restart of another power line.
Repairing damaged power lines
The International Atomic Energy Agency announced on Saturday the start of work to repair the damaged power lines, after it had previously reported the need to make repairs on both sides of the contact line located several kilometers from the station.
/>The nuclear station is located near the town of Energodar, on the banks of the Dnipro River, close to the front line. Its six reactors produced about a fifth of Ukraine’s electricity before the war. The station was closed after Moscow took control of it.
But the station needs electricity to maintain the cooling and safety systems that prevent a nuclear accident.
Moscow: The situation is under Control
In early October, Moscow announced that the situation was under control in Zaporizhya, following concerns expressed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Moscow and Kiev have repeatedly accused each other of risking a nuclear disaster by attacking the site, and of being responsible for the power outage.
