Saqr Ghobash heads a delegation "Federal National" To Azerbaijan
ABU DHABI, 26th October, 2017 (WAM) – His Excellency Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council, will lead the Council’s delegation, which will pay an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan during the period from 28 to 31 October, to participate in the work of the international parliamentary conference dedicated to celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which will be held under the title: “The Constitution is the basis of the independence and sovereignty of states in the contemporary world.” In response to the invitation of Her Excellency Dr. Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The participating Council delegation includes His Excellency Dr. Tariq Humaid Al Tayer, First Vice President of the Council, Dr. Sidra Rashid Al Mansouri, Somaya Abdullah Al Suwaidi, Ahmed Mir Hashem Khoury, Mudhahia Salem Al Minhali, Dr. Nidal Muhammad Al Tenaiji, members of the Federal National Council, Dr. Omar Abdul Rahman Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Council, Afra Rashid Al Basti, Assistant Secretary General for Parliamentary Communication, and Tariq Ahmed. Al Marzouqi, Assistant Secretary-General for Council Presidency Affairs.
This participation comes within the framework of the Federal National Council’s keenness to consolidate and strengthen bilateral parliamentary relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Azerbaijan, and to exchange legislative and constitutional experiences, which contributes to supporting constructive parliamentary partnerships and coordinating positions on issues of common interest.
Relations between the Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates and the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan have witnessed remarkable development in recent years, and the visit of Her Excellency Dr. Sahiba Gafarova, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan, to the UAE and the Federal National Council in May 2025, and her meeting with His Excellency Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council, constituted a prominent milestone in the process of parliamentary cooperation between The two sides, during which a memorandum of understanding was signed aimed at strengthening parliamentary partnership and intensifying coordination in regional and international forums.
The current visit also reflects the Council’s interest in strengthening international parliamentary dialogue, consolidating the role of parliaments in achieving sustainable development goals and promoting the values of peace, stability and prosperity at the regional and international levels.
The visit is scheduled to include bilateral meetings by His Excellency Saqr Ghobash, with a number of senior officials in the Republic of Azerbaijan, with the aim of discussing ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two sides and expand the areas of partnership between the two councils, as an embodiment of the existing partnership relations between the United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Azerbaijan, which enjoys the support of the leadership of the two friendly countries.
