“Dara Al Maktoum” is a home for the homeland

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, accompanied by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai, witnessed the launch ceremony of “Dara Al Maktoum”, which is supervised by the Executive Office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and aims to document the material and oral cultural heritage of the rulers of the Emirate. Dubai and the ruling family and preserving it for future generations, creating a special archive for the rulers of Dubai, their biographies, possessions, and literary and intellectual contributions, and documenting their historical and leadership role in transforming the emirate into a modern and advanced global cultural and economic center.
The Dara also aims to disseminate and disseminate the humanitarian and cultural intellectual legacy of the rulers of the emirate through various media outlets.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said: “The Al Maktoum House is a home for the nation… and an open book for reading the history of governance in Dubai as a civilizational model in building development.”
His Highness added: “The Al Maktoum House will be a new pillar for documenting our national history, and a reference for those searching for the secrets of our successes and the dimensions of the leadership and humanitarian experiences of men who dedicated their lives to serving the nation… Preserving the national heritage is our duty and a right for those who come after us… The story of the ruler is inseparable from the story of his people, and the leaders of the Emirates and its people remain, God willing, one spirit.”
During the launch ceremony, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum watched a short documentary film entitled “Rashid the Leader,” and His Highness also watched a video about the Al Maktoum rulers.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said, in a blog post on his official account on the “X” platform yesterday: “Today we launched the Al Maktoum House…its goal is to preserve history, consolidate memory, and tell the full story of the biography and journey to future generations, the region and the world.”
His Highness added: “Our goal is to preserve Dubai’s heritage… and archive and disseminate it. The goal of the circle is not to establish an institution…but to narrate our history, because history is not only the past, but rather a mirror in which we look to build a greater tomorrow, God willing.”
The launch ceremony was attended, alongside His Highness, by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman of Dubai Airports, Supreme Chairman and CEO of Emirates Airline and Group, His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the National Olympic Committee, and Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, His Highness Sheikh Hasher bin Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Media Incorporated, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Executive Office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, and a number of senior officials.
The launching ceremony of “Dara Al Maktoum” included a display of the tree of Dubai rulers and a group of books and references related to the house that deal with the biography of Dubai and its rulers over the past years, in addition to excerpts from interviews with personalities who played a pivotal role or lived through pivotal stages in the history of Dubai.
The ceremony witnessed the display of a group of historical photos of the rulers of the Emirate of Dubai from 1894 until today, including two photos being displayed for the first time of the late Sheikh Maktoum bin Hasher Al Maktoum, who ruled Dubai from 1894 to 1906, and the late Sheikh Butti bin Suhail Al Maktoum, who ruled the emirate from 1906 to 1912.
The ceremony also included a display of pictures of the late Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum Al Maktoum, who ruled Dubai from 1912 to 1958, the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, may God rest his soul, who led the emirate from 1958 to 1990, and the late Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, may God rest his soul, who ruled Dubai from 1990 to 1990. 2006, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Chairman of the Council Ministers and the Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, who has been leading the development process since 2006 until today.
During the ceremony, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was briefed on the department’s mission, goals and plans to build an integrated digital record for the rulers of the Emirate of Dubai and the Al Maktoum family, and to prepare national cadres to manage the department who are specialized in the field of archiving, managing, organizing and supervising the record, and to work as a main reference for decision makers, researchers, academics and those interested, to benefit from the journey and legacy of the emirate’s rulers. His Highness listened to an explanation of the programs of “Dara Al Maktoum” to collect and document the oral history of the emirate and its rulers, produce documentaries and audio or visual programmes, conduct interviews with people who lived in the emirate’s rulers and sheikhs, and the main events related to them, and conduct historical studies related to the biography of the emirate’s rulers and the Al Maktoum family and its sheikhs extending throughout history, and historical monuments and events. Related to the emirate and its history.
Mohammed bin Rashid issues a decree forming the Board of Directors of “Dara Al Maktoum”
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister, may God protect him, in his capacity as Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, issued Decree No. (44) of 2025 regarding the formation of the Board of Directors of the “Dara Al Maktoum Foundation”, headed by the Chairman of the Executive Office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and with membership of: the Secretary General of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Dubai, the Director General of Dubai Municipality, and the Director General of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, And the Director General of the Executive Office, the Vice Chairman and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council, the Executive Director of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation, and two members with experience and expertise in the field of the Foundation’s work, to be chosen by the Chairman of the Board of Directors. This decree will be effective from the date of its issuance and published in the Official Gazette.
Ambitious and persistent
In a speech during the ceremony, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation, Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, reviewed the history of the Emirate of Dubai and its honorable rulers who transformed the emirate into a model of determination and ambition, as its rulers believed that challenges are an opportunity for development, progress and prosperity.
He added: “What distinguishes the Dubai experience throughout its history is that it was not just an economic or urban success story, but rather a humanitarian story in the first place, led by rulers who made serving people a goal, developing life a mission, and building people the goal of every project, and (Dara Al Maktoum) comes to document this exceptional experience and put it at the disposal of researchers and current and future generations, so that they can be inspired by the values of leadership, the spirit of giving, and loyalty to the homeland.”
Spreading cultural awareness
Dar Al Maktoum works in coordination with relevant local, regional and international bodies, institutions and organizations to exchange information and experiences regarding historical documents, with the aim of spreading cultural awareness about the documents, books and biographies of the rulers of Dubai. The Department is responsible for issuing books, bulletins, and references on historical documents, and developing their cultural and media content, to disseminate the leadership experiences and humanitarian contributions of the rulers of the Emirate of Dubai, by providing information to researchers and those interested, and working in coordination with the relevant authorities in the country, to establish cooperation mechanisms and achieve the goals of the Department locally, Arably, and globally.
Historical documents include official documents and correspondence issued by the rulers of the emirate, which document the historical facts of the Emirate of Dubai and the Al Maktoum family.
