"Ministry of Health" Launches the updated scientific guide for the National Tuberculosis Control Program 2025

Dubai, 27 October / WAM / The Ministry of Health and Community Protection, in cooperation with its strategic partners in the health sector, launched the updated scientific guide for the National Tuberculosis Control Program for the year 2025, as part of its commitment to implementing the latest global practices in the field of communicable disease prevention, and enhancing the health system’s readiness to face future challenges according to an approach based on proactiveness and integration.
This came during a workshop held in Dubai in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Hussein Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector, and Dr. Nada Al Marzouqi, Director of the Public Health and Prevention Department, with the participation of representatives of the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi, the Dubai Health Authority, the Emirates Health Services Corporation, Dubai Health, and a number of experts and specialists in public health and communicable diseases.
The updated guide aims to unify national policies and protocols for diagnosing and treating tuberculosis, and develop follow-up and surveillance mechanisms, to ensure improving the quality of health care, achieving comprehensive coverage, and reducing infection and relapse rates, in harmony with the Sustainable Development Goals and the World Health Organization’s strategy to eliminate the disease by 2030.
The guide includes a set of recommendations and policies that enhance the efficiency of the national response to combating tuberculosis, most notably the adoption of short-term treatment regimens for drug-resistant tuberculosis for a period of six months using effective oral combinations, updating follow-up protocols and expanding the scope of preventive treatment for latent tuberculosis, in addition to examining contacts and groups most at risk of infection to ensure early detection.
The guide includes applying advanced diagnostic techniques such as molecular screening and developing registration and reporting forms to comply with international standards, as well as strengthening infection control procedures in health facilities and updating isolation protocols, aligning the objectives of the national program with sustainable development trends and promoting equity in access to health services.
Dr. Hussein Al-Rand stressed that the launch of the updated scientific evidence comes within the national efforts aimed at eliminating tuberculosis as one of the global health challenges by 2030, in line with the goals of sustainable development and the strategy of the World Health Organization.
His Excellency pointed out that the updated guide is a unified national reference for diagnosing, treating and following up cases of tuberculosis, and reflects the country’s keenness to adopt best practices based on scientific evidence, and unify clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in health institutions in the country.
For her part, Dr. Nada Al Marzouqi stated that updating the guide represents a qualitative leap in efforts to prevent infectious diseases, including tuberculosis, by applying the best health practices based on scientific evidence and the latest diagnostic and therapeutic protocols, which raises the efficiency of medical personnel and contributes to improving the quality of services provided to patients, based on a sustainable approach based on prevention before treatment, anticipating future health challenges and integration between various agencies. Health.
The workshop witnessed a number of scientific presentations on national policies, tuberculosis diagnosis, and mechanisms for treating active and latent cases, in addition to tuberculosis in children, with the participation of a group of experts in health authorities.
The scientific sessions included extensive discussions on ways to enhance the efficiency of surveillance and treatment, and exchange best practices in applying modern protocols, in a way that supports the country’s efforts in developing the national response to combat tuberculosis and improving the quality of health services.
