Consumers demand expanded parking in shopping malls

Consumers said that the limited parking spaces in some shopping centers expose their vehicles to damage when opening the doors of neighboring cars, due to the close proximity between them.

They explained to “Emirates Today” that the limited parking spaces compared to the sizes of modern cars make parking difficult, especially at peak times and before entering commercial centers, calling for the necessity of reconsidering the design of parking lots, and increasing their spaces to suit the sizes of large cars and modern models.

For their part, specialists in the retail trade sector reported that the spaces allocated for parking are subject to approved engineering standards, determined by specialized authorities when granting building permits, pointing out that some types of large-sized vehicles do not, by nature, fit into the standard spaces allocated for parking.

Difficulty and damage

In detail, consumer Walid Saeed said that he faces difficulty parking his car in the parking lots of some commercial centers, due to limited space, which increases the possibility of his vehicle being exposed to scratches or shocks, as a result of the close proximity of neighboring cars, especially when opening the doors to enter or exit them.

For his part, consumer Haitham Saleh stressed the necessity of expanding parking lots in commercial centers to suit the sizes of modern vehicles, because the narrow parking spaces cause difficulty in parking cars, and often lead to the doors colliding with neighboring cars while opening or exiting them, as the vehicles are somewhat close together due to the limited parking space.

As for consumer Karim Ibrahim, he said that the doors of his car were actually damaged several times, due to the limited parking spaces in some centers, which forces shoppers to park their cars closely together. He called for the necessity of redesigning the parking lots and increasing their spaces, to provide a safer place, without affecting the total number of parking spaces, through expansion by adding new parking spaces in the commercial centers.

Consumer Muhammad Khaled stated that it is important to comprehensively develop the parking lots, in terms of area and number, in proportion to the population increase and the growing demand for shopping centers. He pointed out that increasing the parking space contributes to facilitating the parking process and protects vehicles from damage resulting from friction with doors, especially since many modern cars are large in size.

Certified standards

In turn, the Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications at the Lulu Malls Group, Nanda Kumar, said that the parking lots in the centers are subject to approved international engineering standards, and that they are matched by the official authorities that grant permits for shopping center buildings. He pointed out that no complaints have been received from consumers in the past period regarding the limited parking spaces, as they apply the same standards followed in various commercial centers.

For her part, Director of Public Relations at Mercato and Town Center Jumeirah, Nisreen Bustani, said that parking spaces are determined according to studied engineering standards and not in a random manner, and they are proportional to the sizes of vehicles, pointing out that no complaints were recorded regarding the narrowness of parking during previous periods.

policy

In the same context, retail trade affairs expert Ibrahim Al-Bahr confirmed that parking lots in commercial centers are established according to specific standards that are not less than the permissible limits, and can be increased according to the policy of each center.

He said that specialized authorities supervise the application of these standards, whether the parking is inside the centers or in their external surroundings, pointing out that some large cars, by nature, do not fit into standard parking, which creates problems in some cases.

Al-Bahr explained that the number of parking spaces in any mall is determined based on the area of the center and the number of stores in it, in accordance with the standards approved in the country, so that a balance is achieved between the space and the number of available parking spaces, with the possibility of increasing their number when needed, to ensure that shoppers’ needs are met and that they are provided with comfort.
