With a slogan "Cinema…the art of place".. "Movies" The Film Criticism Conference concludes in Riyadh
During the period from 7 to 9 November 2025 AD, the capital, Riyadh, will host the activities of the final leg of the conference International Film Criticism, which is organized by the Film Commission at the Palace of Culture in the Embassy District, after its previous tours in a number of cities in the Kingdom from Abha to Qatif, under the slogan “Cinema… the art of place.”
Place is the basis of cinematic narrative
The conference, in its third edition, is considered an intellectual and critical station that brings together An elite group of critics and filmmakers from inside and outside the Kingdom, to research the deep relationship between cinema and place, as it is one of the most prominent elements of visual narrative and an essential component of cultural identity in the cinematic experience.
The conference extends over three days, during which it includes a rich cultural program that includes Discussion sessions, presentations, and workshops (master classes), in addition to selected film screenings, allow participants to explore the dimensions of place in cinematic work as a visual and cultural space that reflects memory and social transformations.
Developing the Saudi Film Industry
The conference aims to establish film criticism as an essential tributary to the development of the Saudi film industry, by building bridges of communication between critics and filmmakers, and developing critical analysis tools that contribute to enhancing a deep understanding of films. And enriching the local creative scene.
The conference, through its various programs, confirms the Film Commission’s commitment to supporting cinematic and critical culture, and expanding the space for creative dialogue, as part of the integrated cultural system that the Kingdom is witnessing within the goals of its ambitious Vision 2030, in a way that enhances the presence of Saudi cinema as an art and an intellectual and aesthetic practice that contributes to formulating a renewed visual identity for the place and the person.
