Dubai, 30 October / WAM / The Middle East Facilities Management Association (MEFMA) launched the twelfth edition of the MEFMA CONFEX 2025 Conference and Exhibition, which is being held at the JW Marriott Hotel Dubai Marina coinciding with the association’s celebration of 15 years of empowering the facilities management sector, during which it revealed its new corporate identity.
The opening day witnessed the presence of more than 500 participants from 12 countries, including government officials, experts and facility management specialists, who gathered to celebrate MIFMA’s pioneering journey and the qualitative transformation witnessed by the sector in the region.
In a joint report prepared by MIFMA in cooperation with Frost & Sullivan, the association indicated that the facilities management sector is witnessing rapid growth, with the value of the market in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries estimated at approximately US$54.6 billion and expected to reach US$72 billion by 2028, with a compound annual growth rate of 5.7 percent, which confirms its position as one of the most promising sectors in the region, according to what Jamal Lootah, President of the Middle East Facilities Management Association (MEFMA), said in His opening remarks.
On the sidelines of the exhibition, two memorandums of understanding were signed between Jamal Lootah and Abdullah Yousef Al Ali, Director of the Emirates Society of Engineers, and Khaled Al-Ammar, Assistant Undersecretary for Technical Affairs in the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The two memorandums aim to enhance regional cooperation in the areas of training, accreditation and knowledge exchange, which contributes to developing professional standards for the facilities management sector at the level of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. The two agreements will also support joint initiatives concerned with qualifying human resources, enhancing sustainability practices, and aligning facilities management systems with national development agendas in the region.
The first day witnessed fruitful discussion sessions that highlighted the pivotal role of international standards, digital transformation and sustainability in shaping the future of facilities management. The speakers stressed that the sector is witnessing a fundamental transformation from being an operational activity to an integrated system that relies on smart technologies, data, and developing human competencies as main drivers of value creation.
Lootah said, “The development of the facilities management sector has become a strategic force that supports various aspects of urban life, from sustainability and innovation to safety and quality of life. Its role is no longer limited to maintenance, but rather revolves around shaping smarter and more sustainable environments, improving resource efficiency, and ensuring the flexibility of infrastructure in light of rapid urban growth. As we celebrate the 15th anniversary of MIFMA’s journey, this conference continues to enhance dialogue between the government and private sectors and experts, consolidating the position of facilities management as a basic pillar of sustainable urban development in the region as it seeks to establish more efficient cities. And prosperity for future generations.”
