Sudan: The Rapid Support militia is carrying out ethnic cleansing in El Fasher

Ambassador Al-Harith Idris Al-Harith, Sudan’s representative to the United Nations, confirmed that the Rapid Support militia is committing genocide in the city of El-Fasher and other areas of the country, describing what is happening as a continuation of a systematic pattern of ethnic cleansing against civilians.

Al-Harith, during the UN Security Council session, today, Thursday, accused the Rapid Support militia of being a barbaric militia outside the foundations of modern civilization, indicating that it is an extension of It is natural for the Janjaweed militia, which has committed the same atrocities in Darfur over the past years, and that it derives its strength from the looted gold of Darfur and uses “mercenaries from neighboring countries and Latin America.”

 

He added that the city of El Fasher has become a new symbol of the human tragedy, noting that about 500 patients were killed in the Saudi hospital inside the city, as a result of direct attacks, stressing that the civilians of El Fasher were either… They were exterminated inside it or killed during their displacement from it.”

 

The representative of Sudan stressed that his country’s government is committed to international humanitarian law and the protection of civilians, stressing its full cooperation with the United Nations in implementing humanitarian truces and Security Council resolutions, and its continued efforts to achieve peace despite the escalation of violence.

 

He wondered, “Where is the Security Council regarding violations?” Rapid Support Militia?", calling on the Council to take urgent measures to stop the crimes and hold those responsible accountable.

 

The Sudanese delegate to the United Nations confirmed that the absence of international deterrence is what made the Rapid Support Militia persist in its violations inside the country.
