Dubai Theater launches a group singing workshop "Choir"

Dubai, November 2, 2017 – Yesterday, the Dubai National Theater launched a group singing workshop (choir), with the participation of more than 50 sons and daughters of the Emirates, in a new step that reflects its continued keenness to support the Emirati artistic and cultural scene, nurture young talents, enhance the spirit of group singing, and develop the musical taste of new generations.

This step comes as a commitment from the theater to the government’s vision, which places Emirati youth at the top of its priorities, and to consolidate the UAE’s position as a capital of creativity and arts at the regional and global levels.

His Excellency Yasser Ali Al Gergawi, President of the Dubai National Theater, said that launching this initiative to prepare a new generation of young people who believe in the role of group singing comes in line with the theater’s strategy aimed at developing the Emirati artistic scene and providing educational and training platforms that contribute to discovering local talents, refining their skills, and enhancing their presence on the Arab and international artistic scene. He stressed that the workshop is an integrated artistic experience that blends academic knowledge and practical application in an atmosphere full of inspiration and the spirit of group cooperation, and is supervised by distinguished experts and artists.

He added that Dubai National Theater believes that art in its various forms carries a sublime message that supports the values ​​of society, consolidates its identity, and expresses the status of the nation. It is also the first human language that unites societal groups on the values ​​of beauty, unity, and creativity. He stressed that the collective singing workshop seeks to revive this ancient art in a modern spirit that highlights our cultural identity, and gives promising talents the opportunity to express themselves within a sophisticated and professional artistic environment.

Al-Gergawi explained that the workshop extends over a period of four weeks, and is available to all age groups of citizens and residents, and is designed to be more than just vocal training, as it combines artistic guidance, group training, and direct interaction with trainers and musicians, which gives participants a distinctive experience that combines feeling and discipline, art and technique, creativity and teamwork, stressing that the workshop represents the first stage of a series of artistic and training programs that the theater intends to launch during the coming period, within the framework of an ambitious plan to establish a permanent national choir that will represent the UAE in Cultural events and regional and international festivals, and reflects the Emirati identity in a sophisticated and contemporary artistic style.

Al-Gergawi stated that the group singing workshop extends over a period of four weeks, and includes intensive training sessions held every Friday and Tuesday at the headquarters of the Dubai National Theater, with the participation of an elite group of music and vocal training experts who provide various programs that include breathing exercises, proper vocal performance techniques, methods of harmony between voices, and the arts of group singing recitation, in addition to theoretical lectures on the history of the choir and its role in shaping musical awareness throughout the ages.

He pointed out that the goal of the workshop is to enhance artistic awareness and encourage community participation through the collective singing experience that expresses the values ​​of cooperation, unity and harmony, in a way that reflects the spirit of the multicultural Emirati society, pointing out that the Dubai National Theater provides participants with advanced training facilities and musical instruments such as the piano and vocal performance support devices, in addition to specialized educational materials that support their theoretical and practical learning alike.

The workshop participants expressed their appreciation for the Dubai National Theater, which gives them the opportunity to express their talents, develop their performance, and activate their artistic energies, appreciating the efforts of the theater management and the artists and experts in charge of the training process.
