المملكة: 135 researchers document 14 scientific discoveries in the depths of the Red Sea
The National Center for Wildlife Development announced the recording of 14 scientific discoveries as part of the “Decade Voyage to Explore the Red Sea,” after a marine survey exceeding 70,000 kilometers, to enhance the protection of Biodiversity and achieving the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
The center explained that scientific discoveries included documenting blue holes, wall heads, and annular coral reefs. He explained that these results open new horizons for understanding Marine ecosystems and supports conservation programs.
Collecting data and documenting marine environments
He revealed that the research teams collected accurate scientific data to document marine environments with the participation of more than 135 male and female researchers. He noted that this The efforts made over the past five years enhance the Kingdom’s position as a regional center for marine research and exploration.
The center reported carrying out 44 diving trips via manned submarines that reached depths of 500 metres. He added that the teams completed 131 missions using remotely piloted vehicles that explored depths reaching 2,300 meters.
He pointed out that the trip recorded reaching the maximum sea depth of 2,752 meters in the Red Sea. He stressed that providing this base of scientific data supports evidence-based environmental decision-making.
