Sharjah Police thwarts an illegal trade in legally protected animals

In a qualitative operation carried out by the Sharjah Police General Command, represented by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and Investigations, in cooperation with the General Department of the Federal Criminal Police at the Ministry of Interior, an accused of Arab nationality who was involved in illegal trade in legally protected animals was arrested.

The seizure came as a result of an elaborate ambush that resulted in the confiscation of a number of animals protected under international agreements, including a group of endangered lynxes and foxes, which are considered prohibited species and not authorized for trade.

The animals were transferred to a natural reserve in coordination with the Environment and Natural Reserves Authority in Sharjah and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, while the accused was referred to the Public Prosecution to complete the legal procedures against him.

Sharjah Police stressed its keenness to address such practices that pose a threat to the environmental balance, calling on community members to cooperate and report any suspicious cases related to the acquisition or trade in protected animals.
