Secretary of the United Nations: 700 million people live in extreme poverty

The Secretary-General of the United Nations emphasized , that about 700 million people around the world still live in extreme poverty, despite international efforts made over the past decades to reduce And achieving sustainable development.
He explained – in his speech before the Second World Summit for Social Development held in Doha – that the summit comes in "A critical turning point"characterized by escalating human suffering and the continuation of conflicts, poverty, hunger, displacement and unemployment.
Eradicating poverty
He stressed that developing countries do not receive adequate support, and that the pace of work towards achieving sustainable development is still "Below standard" To keep pace with innovation and confront climate change.
He stressed that eradicating poverty requires effective and targeted investments, ensuring everyone’s access to affordable food, clean water, and adequate housing, in addition to developing comprehensive social protection systems that provide support to individuals when needed, and enable tracking progress in implementing the goals of for the year 2030.
Antonio pointed to the importance of the Thirtieth Conference of the Parties (COP30) on Climate Change, which will be held in the city of Belem, Brazil, from November 10 to 21, 2025, calling on all countries of the world participating in this conference to limit the rise in temperatures and provide climate justice to the countries on the front lines in the face of climate change.
