Al-Sharif: The Kingdom is moving towards leadership in peaceful nuclear technologies

The head of the Nuclear Energy Innovation and Technologies Sector at King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy Dr. Sharaf bin Faisal Al-Sharif said that the Kingdom’s progress is in Nuclear energy began with confidence, and will continue – God willing – towards regional and global leadership in peaceful and advanced nuclear technologies.
This came in his speech on behalf of Prince Dr. Mamdouh bin Saud bin Thunayan, CEO of the city, in his speech during the activities of the Second Saudi International Conference on Nuclear Energy Engineering (SCOPE2025), hosted by King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, with the participation of an elite group of experts, academics, researchers and specialists in the fields of nuclear science and engineering from inside and outside the Kingdom, sponsored by King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy.
Al-Sharif pointed out that the conference embodies the spirit of cooperation between the various elements of The energy system in the Kingdom, including universities, research centers, regulatory and industrial bodies, in addition to students and young professionals who represent the future of this promising sector.

Al-Sharif stressed that the SCOPE conference is not just a technical gathering, but rather a platform that brings together vision and ability, national energies and global expertise, explaining that this diversity embodies the extent of the progress the Kingdom has made in building an integrated energy system within the goals of the Kingdom’s vision. 2030.
He explained that the project to establish the first large nuclear power station in the Kingdom is making tangible progress, and has completed issuing technical specifications in accordance with the highest international standards, in a way that enhances national energy security and supports the growth of local industry.
He stated that the city is also preparing for the next stage by evaluating technologies for small modular reactors (SMRs), given the flexible and low-emission solutions they provide for generating electricity, water desalination, and hydrogen production.
He indicated that the Kingdom is working to ensure that it enters this field with human capabilities. And integrated national technology and industry.
