Sherine Ahmed Tarek: My singing at the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum brought me back to my roots

International Egyptian artist Sherine Ahmed Tarek expressed her happiness at her participation in the opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum, stressing that the event represented for her a moment of return to her roots and a deep connection to her home country, Egypt, after many years of working in the United States.

 

Sherine said with Mona El Shazly that her father was born in Alexandria and traveled to America in the eighties, and made the American dream come true, adding: “I grew up Egyptian, very Egyptian, I eat beautiful Egyptian food, and most of my family lives here in Egypt, and I am very proud to be in Egypt again, and to return to my roots.”

She also talked about her artistic beginnings, saying: “In fact, I was a dancer at first, when I was three years old they would put me on the table, and they would start playing rhythms and I would start dancing, so I feel that I have been dancing since I was young, and to be an artist in any way possible… Then I discovered my voice and taught myself to sing, And then I fell in love with acting, so I believe that whatever way or form in which I can be an artist, I strive for that, so I am a singer and an actress.”

She referred to her academic studies, saying that she studied law in order to achieve justice, continuing: “I had started studying in law school and wanted to work in the judicial system in the United States of America, and I remember that I was in the last semester and I was on the right track to study law, and on the first day I said to myself, I am an actress, I am a singer. And an actress. But yes, my studies are still a source of information for all the work that I do, and I am grateful for everything that I studied before.. I am very passionate about the criminal justice system and the law of course, and it benefits me very much in everything I do on stage as an actress and singer.”

She added: “I know how to speak a little basic Arabic. I live in the United States of America in New York City and work on Broadway and in theatre.. It has been a long time since I returned to Egypt. I have a big family here, and this is how it brought me back.” This ceremony refers to my Egyptian roots and seeing my family and friends here in Egypt, I am very happy.”

Sherine Ahmed Tarek spoke about her experience at the opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum, saying: “I really feel that the world has never witnessed a celebration like this before, but in terms of truth, the spread and communication with the world, the Egyptian heritage and history that we presented to the world in this beautiful form that includes music, dance, and all the fashion and engineering designs, it is completely incredible, what our ancestors did in our history is a wonderful way to tell Our story".
