"Sharjah Heritage Institute" Organizes dialogue sessions at the book fair

Sharjah, 9 November / WAM / The Sharjah Institute for Heritage organized dialogue sessions at the Sharjah International Book Fair 2025 that focused on the importance of enhancing research and study in the heritage field and served as a platform for exchanging experiences between academics and creative people, thus consolidating Sharjah’s position as a global cultural center.
Today, the Institute held a specialized dialogue session entitled “Sponsoring heritage research projects as a pillar for documenting the Emirati heritage.” It addressed the importance of studies and research in preserving the national heritage, mechanisms for documenting cultural heritage, and developing scientific research tools in this field, with the participation of Dr. Rashid Al Mazrouei, a researcher in Emirati popular heritage, and Dr. Hamad bin Saray, former professor of history and heritage at the UAE University, advisor for heritage studies and research at the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, and in the presence of an elite group of academics, researchers, media professionals, and those interested in the matter. Dr. Hamad bin Saray stressed that the heritage institutions in the country, including the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, play a pivotal role in supporting research projects aimed at documenting the Emirati heritage, noting that the institute has provided an inspiring model in sponsoring and publishing research through the scientific, editorial and production support it provides to researchers. He reviewed examples of projects that received the institute’s support.
For his part, Dr. Rashid Al Mazrouei explained that the UAE is replete with a large number of specific heritage projects and spoke about some of his books and projects in the field of documentation and heritage, referring to the Popular Proverbs Project and the Project to Document Local Names of Regions.
He stressed that the “Narrator Forum” – organized annually by the Sharjah Heritage Institute – is one of the most prominent initiatives that contributed to preserving the Emirati oral memory.
