Zayed bin Mohammed bin Zayed opens the 17th edition of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship

Abu Dhabi, November 13, 2017 – His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan yesterday witnessed the opening of the activities of the 17th edition of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, which is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, at the Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi, and will continue until November 22.

His Highness witnessed part of the opening day competitions and honored a number of winners in the amateur category, stressing that the tournament represents a leading platform for discovering promising talents and creating champions, and embodies the vision of the wise leadership to continue developing the sport of jiu-jitsu, support its champions, and enhance the UAE’s presence on the global sports scene.

His Highness pointed out that the great interest this sport receives in the country reflects the values ​​it instills in the hearts of the younger generation, such as discipline, determination, and willpower, which contributes to building a generation capable of representing the UAE in various continental and global forums.

For his part, His Excellency Abdul Moneim Al Sayed Mohammed Al Hashemi, President of the Emirati and Asian Federations, First Vice President of the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation, on this occasion, extended his deepest thanks and gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him,” and to His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, for their generous patronage and continued support for the sport of Jiu-Jitsu, which made The UAE is a global model in developing this sport and spreading its noble values among the various peoples of the world.

He said that His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s opening of the seventeenth edition of the tournament embodies the interest of the wise leadership in preparing a generation of champions capable of raising the state’s flag in the largest forums, within a national vision that invests in people and believes in their abilities.

He added that the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship has become a global platform that brings together cultures and inspires talent, and reflects the honorable image of the UAE as a leading destination for sports, combining professional organization with high-end human values ​​based on respect, discipline and peace.

More than 10,000 male and female players from various countries of the world are participating in the 17th edition of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, to compete in the largest and most important tournament on the global agenda of Jiu-Jitsu, which was launched yesterday in the amateur category, followed by the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Festival, dedicated to the categories of children, buds and cubs, which will be held during the period from November 13 to 15, in addition to parajujitsu competitions on November 13, then the junior categories. Youth on November 16 and 17, and masters on November 18 and 19, while the competitions will conclude with professional fights on November 20, 21 and 22.
