Emirates Airlines orders 65 additional Boeing 777

Emirates Airlines, the largest international air carrier in the world, announced yesterday an order for an additional 65 Boeing 777-9 aircraft equipped with GE 9X engines, worth $38 billion (AED 139.5 billion), on the first day of the Dubai Airshow 2025.

With this announcement, Emirates Airlines’ total orders with Boeing rise to 315 wide-body aircraft, including 270 777-9 aircraft, 10 F777 freighters, and 35 787 aircraft. Its total orders for GE9X engines with GE Aerospace also rises to 540 engines, including 130 additional engines whose order was signed yesterday.

This reflects a long-term commitment to the aerospace industry in the United States, which supports the extension of the program to hundreds of thousands of high-value industrial jobs in the American market. The recent agreement with Boeing also gives a strong impetus to the feasibility study related to the development of the “777-10” model, the largest in the “777

Deep partnership

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and CEO of Emirates Airline and the Group, said: “Emirates is the largest operator of Boeing 777 aircraft in the world, and today it continues to strengthen its commitment by ordering 65 additional 777-9 aircraft worth $38 billion, in addition to 130 GE9X engines.”

His Highness added: “This investment represents an extension of our deep partnership with (Boeing) and (GE Aerospace), and a pivotal support for the aerospace industry sector in the United States.”

His Highness continued: “Each aircraft within this order was approved according to precise standards, to ensure its consistency with the future road map of (Emirates Airlines) and the needs of our expanding global network, in line with Dubai’s development plans. Operating a modern and advanced fleet remains a fundamental pillar of our strategy, and we will continue to work closely with (Boeing), to ensure the delivery of the first (777-9) aircraft starting from the second quarter of 2027, and to provide our fleet with the latest innovations, technologies and products.” “The cabins that consolidate Emirates Airlines’ leadership position in the industry.”

Regarding the 777-10 options, His Highness said: “Emirates Airlines is constantly stressing its need for larger, more efficient aircraft to support its operations and global network, especially in light of the expected growth in air traffic and the increasing restrictions at global airports. We see that Boeing’s study to develop the 777-10 model represents an important direction to meet the requirements of global air carriers, and we fully support this step, and we have already signed options to convert our new order.” From the (777-9) to (777-10) or (777-8), in line with our future plans and long-term directions.”

Largest fleet

In addition, GE Aerospace and Emirates Airlines announced yesterday the signing of an agreement under which the former will supply the latter with 130 GE9X engines to operate an additional 65 Boeing 777-9 aircraft, bringing the carrier’s total order of GE9X engines to more than 540 engines. The agreement also includes the supply of spare engines and a long-term service agreement.

During its journey spanning four decades, Emirates Airlines operated various models of the 777 family equipped with GE90 engines, and the carrier today operates the largest fleet of these aircraft in the world, including 119 777-300 ER aircraft, 10 777-200 LR aircraft, and 11 freighter aircraft, linking Dubai with more than 140 cities and serving trade and travel across six continents.
