"Emirates Airlines" and"Enoch" They are collaborating to develop sustainable aviation fuel sourcing initiatives

Dubai, November 19, 2017 – Emirates Airlines and the ENOC Group signed, on the sidelines of the Dubai Airshow 2025, a memorandum of understanding to explore and develop joint initiatives to supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to Emirates Airlines at its operations center in Dubai.
The memorandum of understanding, signed by Adel Al Redha, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Emirates Airlines, and Hussain Sultan Lootah, Acting CEO of ENOC Group, establishes a framework for conducting feasibility studies to evaluate sustainable aviation fuel supply opportunities in Dubai, including supply chain infrastructure, production capabilities, and commercial feasibility.
The cooperation aims to explore paths to develop the production and supply of sustainable aviation fuel in an economical and sustainable manner in Dubai, where ENOC will evaluate its capabilities to contribute to local production, and a joint steering committee will be formed to supervise the evaluation and implementation stages.
Adel Al Redha said that Emirates Airlines continues to explore ways to integrate sustainable aviation fuel into its operations, and that the partnership with ENOC is an important step in this path, pointing out that establishing a reliable supply system for sustainable fuel at the carrier’s operations center in Dubai is a major priority, and that this partnership allows studying the most feasible paths to achieve this.
For his part, Hussain Sultan Lootah said that sustainable aviation fuel plays a pivotal role in reducing carbon emissions resulting from air transport, and that the memorandum of understanding with Emirates Airlines embodies a joint commitment to developing its production locally and enhancing the necessary infrastructure to make low-carbon aviation a tangible reality. He added: “With the UAE’s vision to provide 1% of aviation fuel to national airlines from locally produced sustainable fuel by 2031, we believe that this cooperation brings us one step closer towards achieving this goal.”
Sustainable aviation fuel is a safe and fully certified fuel that can be used in blends with conventional aviation fuel by up to 50%, resulting in aviation fuel that has significantly lower carbon emissions over its life cycle.
Sustainable aviation fuel, in its pure form, can reduce emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional aviation fuel, according to approved life cycle assessment methodologies such as the CORSIA methodology.
