6 of Sharjah’s international players were given a rest this round

The coach of the Sharjah team, Abdul Majeed Al-Nimr, said that he will seek to improve the results of his current team, which he recently assumed the task of supervising, succeeding Serbian Milos Milojevic, stressing that he hopes to live up to the trust placed in him by the Sharjah Club management, pointing out that he will focus a lot during the coming period on the psychological matters of the players.
Abdul Majeed Al-Nimr is preparing to play his first match with the Sharjah team, which will be held today, at his home stadium, against the Baniyas team, in the eighth round of the ADNOC Professional League. Regarding the possibility of the participation of Sharjah’s international players, who were with the first team in the World Cup qualifiers, Abdul Majeed Al-Nimr told “Emirates Al-Youm” that they have been given a rest, and will not participate against Baniyas, except for one player, who he refused to name, meaning that the number of absent internationals will be six players.
The last team roster, which played two decisive matches with Iraq in the World Cup qualifiers, included seven players from Sharjah Club, namely: Khaled Al-Dhanhani, Majid Rashid, Hareb Abdullah, Luan Pereira, Marcos Meloni, Kayo Lucas, and goalkeeper Adel Al-Hosani.
Al-Nimr spoke about his interest in the psychological aspect of Sharjah players in the coming period, and said: “The psychological aspect for the players is the weapon that the technical staff is currently working on, despite the limited time.”
Al-Nimr explained: “During the coming period, we are seeking to change the psychological matters for the players, because everyone knows that Sharjah is the same team that achieved championships last season, and the players are the same, and the team may also have witnessed the addition of some elements, but there was no success with the previous technical staff, which tried and is thanked for what it did with the team.”
In response to a question about what he is thinking about most now after assuming the task of coaching the Sharjah team, he said: “For me, I am currently thinking about improving the team’s performance and results,” and stressed that the team needs to restore confidence in some of the players, especially since the team has very excellent elements, pointing out that the previous technical staff tried, but did not succeed in the results during the season.
The Sharjah coach continued: “I thank the Sports Street, which was very happy to entrust me with this task, and I hope that I live up to this trust.” Regarding whether Sharjah needs to strengthen its ranks with some elements, Al-Nimr said: “I do not think that the team needs new players, but if we see its need, we will do so, and as for us in the technical staff, we will give the opportunity to all players.”
After the end of the seventh round of the league, Sharjah occupies 11th place with seven points, having won two matches, drawn one match, and lost four matches, conceding nine goals, and scoring eight goals in return.
Al-Nimr began his career as a coach in 2001, and continued for about 25 years. He trained all the teams of the senior stages in the Sharjah Club, then the first team twice in the years 2010-2011, then the first team in the Hatta Club in the professional league, as well as the first team in the Khor Fakkan Club twice in 2022, when he saved the team from relegation to the amateur league last season, and he also trained the reserve team in Al-Nasr Club in 2013, and Al-Nimr also works. Certified technical lecturer at the Asian Football Confederation.
In terms of his career as a player, Abdul Majeed Al-Nimr started as a player in all the junior stages teams in Sharjah Club, then he moved to play in the first team, and played with them for about 10 years, and won seven championships with them, namely: the league championship four times, then the President’s Cup twice, and one championship in the Super Cup, and he played for the youth team in the Asian Cup finals in 1987.
