China calls for a negotiated settlement of the Ukrainian crisis

China’s representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, called for a negotiated settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.

The Chinese news agency “Xinhua” reported “The Ukrainian crisis continues unabated, with ground combat operations continuing,” Cong said, adding that with winter approaching, residents of the conflict zone face the dual pressures of war and extreme cold, creating an extremely worrying humanitarian situation.

Fu said – before the UN Security Council: “China calls, once again, on the parties to the conflict to exercise restraint, strictly comply with international humanitarian law, and effectively protect civilians and civilian infrastructure.” Dialogue and negotiations also represent the only viable way to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. We urge the parties to show political will and quickly embark on the path of a negotiated settlement.”

Fu called on the international community to intensify humanitarian aid, actively promote peace talks, and continue to create favorable conditions for reaching a political solution.

He added that China’s position on the Ukrainian issue is very clear and consistent, noting that China has actively engaged with all parties concerned to advance peace and negotiation efforts, and is ready to communicate with all parties and play a constructive role to achieve a ceasefire. It is too early to open fire and advance the political settlement of the crisis.
