The US Treasury will not renew sanctions relief on Iranian oil


The Ministry announced The US Treasury does not intend to extend the decision to ease Sanctions that had been imposed for a temporary period on some Iranian oil to contain the rise in Energy prices, which will expire after a few days.
A statement issued by the Ministry stated: "The short-term license that allowed the sale of Iranian oil already stuck at sea expires in a few days and will not be subject to renewal."
The statement indicated that maximum pressure will remain imposed on Tehran.
This temporary license allowed the delivery and sale of Iranian crude oil and other oil derivatives loaded into tankers before March 20, and is supposed to remain in effect until April 19.

Containing the rise in energy prices

This measure was taken within a series of measures adopted by the administration of US President Donald Trump with the aim of containing the rise in energy prices as a result of the war that broke out in the Middle East. On February 28.
Sanctions were also reduced in this context on Russian gas transported by sea.
A high-ranking American official said that the Donald Trump administration sent letters to China and Hong Kong that some banks under their jurisdiction allowed illegal Iranian activities.

In these letters, it was stated that the Treasury Department called on the authorities to cooperate to stop any illegal activity related to Iran.
In its letter, the ministry indicated reasons to believe that Banks in these jurisdictions handled illicit Iranian funds.
