Syria.. A curfew was imposed due to a rumor about the existence of a “gold cave in the neighborhood”

A Syrian official confirmed that there is no evidence of the presence of gold in the northern countryside of Daraa in the south of the country.
Wael Al-Zamil, director of the Al-Sanamayn region, said in a statement published by Daraa Governorate on Saturday-Sunday night: “The Al-Sanamayn District Directorate is following up on what is being circulated on social media about the discovery of a cave containing gold while digging the basement of a house in the city of Al-Hara.”
He explained, “What has appeared so far is a small hole during the excavation work, and its nature is still unknown, and no sightings or evidence of the presence of gold at the site have been recorded.”
He stressed that the security units had taken deployment measures in the area to prevent stampedes after the increase in the number of citizens around the excavation site, in order to preserve their safety. He pointed out that a specialized team from the Directorate of Antiquities was awaiting the arrival to conduct a technical examination and determine the exact nature of the hole.
Al-Zamil called on citizens not to be drawn into rumours, calling on the media to ensure accuracy and credibility in reporting the news, warning that the continuation of gatherings may expose people’s lives to the danger of crowding and crowding.
Syria TV quoted local sources as saying that large numbers of residents have been gathering for hours around the excavation site, while Internal Security is facing difficulty in dispersing the gatherings, and was forced to fire as a warning, amid reports of a wounded person, noting that the security forces imposed a curfew in the city of Al-Hara.
The local “Daraa 24” news network pointed out that quantities of gold were found in the same area during previous years, and the ousted regime had controlled it at the time.
Last August, rumors spread claiming that quantities of gold had been found in the village of Al-Bu Hamad in Raqqa Governorate, northeastern Syria, before it became clear that the discovered metal was “pyrite,” popularly known as “false gold.”
