المملكة: Al-Rabiah: Saudi Arabia is a world leader in promoting the rights of children and conjoined twins

The Advisor to the Royal Court, the General Supervisor of The rights of children with disabilities and their integration into society, which consolidated the Kingdom’s position as a global supporter of children with disabilities and conjoined twins.
He called for mobilizing new commitments to achieve Health care, education, and providing psychological and social support for these children.
This came during his participation yesterday in New York City in a dialogue session organized by the Center in cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), within the event held on the occasion of the International Day of Conjoined Twins under the slogan "From words to actions… a world ready to support conjoined twins and children with disabilities"in the presence of the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Ambassador Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Wasel.
Incomplete separation of the fetus
Dr. Al-Rabiah explained that conjoined twins are a rare condition that occurs as a result of incomplete separation of the fetus, which requires specialized medical care, stressing the importance of prenatal diagnosis, the possibility of surgical separation, and individual care plans, in addition to respect for diverse cultural and moral values.
He pointed out that managing these complex cases requires a team that includes all relevant medical specialties.

He discussed surgical and non-surgical methods for managing cases of conjoined twins, explaining that the decision to surgically separate is taken into account when it is possible using the latest medical imaging techniques, such as 3D printing and simulation, while non-surgical management focuses on supportive care and rehabilitation.
Conjoined twins cases
Dr. Al-Rabiah stressed that the decision-making process is influenced by several factors, including the type of conjoint, shared organs, urgent medical need, the interest of the twin, medical experience and family values.

He pointed to the long-term outcomes, support needs and societal impacts of conjoined twins, stating that outcomes vary depending on the type of conjoined and shared organs, and there is often a need for continuous medical care and rehabilitation.
He stressed that international cooperation can enhance awareness and education about cases of conjoined twins and contain and integrate the twins into society, while respecting their dignity and rights.
