FIFA announces the punishment for Cristiano Ronaldo

Today, FIFA announced the punishment of Portugal national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo, after receiving a red card in his country’s match against Ireland in Dublin.
Because of this red card, Ronaldo missed Portugal’s last match in the group, which won 9-1 over Armenia to ensure qualification for the finals. FIFA confirmed that the 40-year-old veteran player was suspended for three matches, but if the incident does not occur again, he will not be subjected to any further punishment.
“In line with Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the remaining two matches of the sanction have been suspended for one year,” FIFA said in a statement.
“If Cristiano Ronaldo commits another offense of a similar nature and seriousness during that period… he will immediately have to serve the remaining two matches of the suspension in the player’s next official (matches) with the Portugal national team,” he added.
This decision gave Cristiano Ronaldo the ability to play Portugal’s opening matches in next year’s FIFA World Cup.
