المملكة: With the participation of the Kingdom… details of the meeting of the Council of Arab Information Ministers in Cairo

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information for International Media Relations, Khalid bin Abdul-Qadir Al-Ghamdi, participated in the opening session, representing the Kingdom, which heads the Executive Office of the Council of Ministers Arabs, and the Kingdom’s delegation was represented during the meeting by the Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Ambassador Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Matar.
Council of Arab Information Ministers
The Syrian Minister of Information said, in his opening speech for the ministerial session: "It is no secret to all of us that the opportunities afforded to us by the digital media era are matched by challenges that require a unified and common Arab position that protects societies from the dangers of divisions resulting from being drawn into misleading and extremist content."
He explained that Syria’s contribution in its presidency of the ministerial session will focus on pushing towards formulating unified Arab policies to deal with the challenges facing the media scene, and working to exchange experiences to localize digital knowledge, to move from the category of consuming content to the category of creating and influencing it.
Israeli occupation practices
He added: "We cannot ignore today that Gaza is a deep wound in the human and Arab conscience, and that the role of our Arab media in conveying the suffering of the Palestinian people to the world is a pivotal role in consolidating the defense of the legitimate rights of this steadfast people and exposing the practices of the Israeli occupation."
The Syrian Minister stressed that the Arab Media Code of Honor has become an urgent necessity, and work will be done in cooperation with Arab Information Ministers to consolidate the values of credibility and transparency, to protect societies from hate speech and division.
Collective Security System
The Bahraini Minister of Information, Ramzan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, confirmed, in a similar speech, that the media has become an essential element in the collective security system and building the mental image of Arab countries abroad.
He said: "During its presidency of the Council session, his country worked seriously to coordinate efforts and support cooperation and joint Arab action in a way that enhances the Arab international and regional presence."
The Bahraini Minister of Information stressed the need for the Arabs to be one voice on various issues and cooperate in facing the challenges facing us.
Strengthening the role of the media
The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, stressed the importance of strengthening the role of the media in supporting development priorities in the Arab world, by linking the media message to the goals of sustainable development, highlighting national efforts in several fields, unifying the Arab development media discourse, and enhancing cooperation between Arab media institutions.
He stressed that Aboul Gheit noted the Arab media’s interaction with the Gaza Strip tragedy in various forms, indicating that the Arab media is required to address the world, both West and East, in languages it understands and to confront the Israeli narrative, which sometimes conveys half the truth and is often completely false, so we need to continue activating the plan for Arab media action abroad. The Palestinian issue tops the draft agenda of the ministerial session. Which discusses the Arab media code of honor, the follow-up of the plan for Arab media action abroad, the role of Arab media in confronting the phenomenon of terrorism, the Arab media map for sustainable development 2030, the strategy for media and information literacy, the environmental media plan, the employment of artificial intelligence in Arab media, and Arab-Chinese cooperation in the field of media, as well as an item about "The capital of Arab media" The Ministerial Council is scheduled to approve the new formation of its Executive Office for the next two years, and adopt draft decisions submitted by the Executive Office at the conclusion of its meeting yesterday.Arab Media
