Sharjah Culture concludes the tenth edition of the Luxor Arab Poetry Festival

Luxor, 30 November / WAM / Yesterday, the Sharjah Department of Culture concluded the activities of the tenth edition of the Luxor Festival of Arabic Poetry, which was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and continued for 4 days with the participation of more than 140 creative men and women from various governorates of Egypt.

The closing ceremony of the festival, which was held in the open-air theater in Luxor Temple Square, was attended by His Excellency Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Owais, Chairman of the Sharjah Department of Culture, Muhammad Ibrahim Al Qasir, Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs in the Department, and Dr. Ahmed Mohi Hamza, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Luxor University, Hussein Al-Qabahi, Director of the House of Poetry in Luxor, and a large number of audiences who flocked to the ceremony to celebrate poetry and its creators.

And the price of D. Ahmed Mohi Hamza, the Sharjah Cultural Role, which is sponsored and supported by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, praising His Highness’s noble initiative represented by poetry houses, describing them as milestones that establish a cultural and creative scene in the Arab world, expressing Luxor University’s pride in the cultural partnership it has with the Poetry House in Luxor, stressing that it is a partnership that has yielded many activities over 10 years and contributed to refining the talents of young people.

Mohy Hamza congratulated the House of Poetry in Luxor on the occasion of its tenth anniversary, pointing out that the passage of ten years is evidence of the success of this pioneering cultural initiative, which, since its establishment, has been working to serve both Egyptian and Arab culture.

The closing day began its activities with Abdullah Al-Owais and Muhammad Al-Qasir opening the Fine Arts Exhibition with the participation of a group of artists and students from the College of Fine Arts in Luxor, and in the presence of a crowd of festival guests and male and female students of the college.

The exhibition included more than 70 plastic works by more than 70 artists, and the works showed the participants’ ability to formulate their ideas within innovative plastic installations. The works varied between drawing and the use of metals and composite materials, presenting diverse plastic visions and revealing the artists’ skill in employing materials and building compositions that carry aesthetic and philosophical connotations at the same time.

Al Owais and the audience toured the exhibition, listening to the students’ explanations about the details of their works, implementation techniques, and the aesthetic messages carried by the artistic formations. He honored a number of male and female students who won prizes in the college’s fine arts competition.

After that, Luxor University hosted a poetry evening in which a number of Egyptian poets participated. Their poems varied between the humanitarian, the patriotic, the sentimental, daily life, the spirit of belonging, and pride in identity and history.

The poets participating in the festival appreciated the role played by the House of Poetry, stressing that over a period of a whole decade, the House of Poetry in Luxor provided a spacious space for creative people and turned the historical city into a vibrant platform that brought together poetic voices from various Arab countries, considering Sharjah the destination for Arab intellectuals.
