Sakhir Palace…the venue for historic summits and a symbol of Bahraini authenticity

Host Historic Sakhir Palace, The 46th Gulf Summit next Wednesday in the Bahraini capital, Manama, under extremely sensitive regional and international circumstances, and amidst surrounding challenges that the region has never witnessed before, foremost of which are developments in the war in the Gaza Strip.

Sakhir Palace has always been the focus of summits and major historical events, as it is located in the wild area southwest of Bahrain, northeast of the Bahrain International Circuit, near the village of Zallaq and the University of Bahrain.

/>Built in 1901 AD, it was the residence of Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa (1932-1942). It underwent a comprehensive renovation and was reopened on September 16, 2003, becoming a symbol of authentic Bahraini architecture. It is inspired by Isa’s Grand Palace in Muharraq, and is predominantly white in color and dotted with grand arches and columns.

Sakhir Palace hosted many Historical eventsand summits, including the summit of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council (December 2016), and the visit of Pope Francis (2022) and His Eminence the Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Sheikh of Al-Azhar within the Bahrain Forum for Dialogue “East and West for Human Coexistence”.

And it hosted the 33rd Arab Summit "Bahrain Summit" In 2024, it is also the location for official celebrations of national holidays, and for receiving ambassadors to present their credentials.
