“Muslim Elders” organizes a discussion session on “Media and Peace Journalism”

The Council of Muslim Elders, through its regional office in Central Asia, organized a high-level discussion session entitled “Media and Peace Journalism in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” in the city of Turkestan, Kazakhstan, with the participation of government officials, academics, and experts in media and digital technologies.

The session came within the framework of the Council’s efforts to promote a culture of peace and consolidate the ethics of media work in the digital age, in cooperation with the Senate of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the International Center for Interreligious and Inter-Sectarian Dialogue, and the Khoja Ahmet Yesoy Kazakh-Turkish International University.

The session was opened with a speech by Darkhan Kederali, a member of the Senate of the Republic of Kazakhstan and General Supervisor of the Office of the Council of Muslim Elders in Central Asia, who conveyed a message from Mulin Ashambayev, Chairman of the Senate of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in which he stressed the importance of hosting the Turkestan Region and Khoja Ahmet Yesoy University for this event, noting that peace journalism extends to addressing social issues with humanity and responsibility.

For his part, Yaltay Altayev, Deputy Mayor of the Turkestan Region, welcomed the participants, noting that digital development has reshaped the media environment and changed the speed of information flow.

Professor Dr. Cannar Temirbekova, President of Khoja Ahmet Yesoy International University, confirmed that the topic of the session integrates with several academic specializations within the university, explaining that the Faculty of Engineering is developing advanced projects in artificial intelligence, while the Department of Journalism provides a professional foundation for responsible media, noting that promoting peace values ​​reflects the spiritual heritage of Khoja Ahmad Yesoy.

Abdul Naeem Sayed Mukhammed, Supervisor of the Regional Office of the Council of Muslim Elders in Central Asia, confirmed that organizing this session reflects the Council’s commitment to spreading the values ​​of peace, establishing media ethics, confronting hate speech, and promoting a responsible media environment in the region.

Janagul Tolemis, Advisor to the Minister of Education, Kazakhstan, gave a presentation on protecting children online within the framework of the “Kazakhstan’s Children Online” initiative, stressing the importance of digital awareness and media literacy.

Erlan Junis, editor-in-chief of Anna Tele newspaper, also pointed out that the content published on social media platforms has become a mirror of society, and that every individual has become part of the media space, whether as a producer or a consumer, which doubles the collective responsibility in promoting a positive information environment.

At the conclusion of the session, the participants stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between media, academic and religious institutions, developing practical tools to support peace journalism, combating digital disinformation, and consolidating the values ​​of coexistence and human respect in societies.
