Omar Sultan Al Olama is a member of the management of the “Artificial Intelligence Ethics Council”

The Artificial Intelligence Ethics Council (AIEC), an initiative supported by Operation Hope in the United States of America, announced the selection of Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, as a member of the Board of Directors, confirming the UAE’s pioneering role in ethical AI governance and supporting international efforts to ensure the development of responsible and safe advanced technologies.
Al-Ulama is considered the first international leader and the first representative from the Middle East to join the Board of Directors, which includes an elite group of global leaders in the fields of civil rights, education, technology, business, government and ethics, and is chaired by Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, and John Hope Bryant, founder of Operation Hope and Chairman of its Board of Directors.
This selection confirms the UAE’s position as an active partner in enhancing international cooperation, exchanging experiences, and developing global frameworks to enhance confidence in future technologies, in line with its vision of building an innovative digital system based on the values of transparency, safety, and sustainability.
Al Olama said that the UAE, with the vision of its ambitious leadership, continues to consolidate its position as a global center for guiding the future of artificial intelligence, noting that the UAE’s global model of ethical governance and responsible adoption of advanced technologies has strengthened its position on the international arena and contributed to building a more prosperous and sustainable digital future.
He added that ethical responsibility represents a value and a priority in the UAE’s strategy towards modern technologies and artificial intelligence, stressing continued support for global efforts to formulate standards that ensure fair and responsible use of future technologies, push economies to new horizons, open wider doors to knowledge and opportunities, and preserve the human values that the UAE and the world are keen on.
For his part, Bryant said, We welcome Minister Omar Sultan Al Olama to the Artificial Intelligence Ethics Council as the first international leader and the first representative from the Middle East, which reflects the UAE’s advanced position in the field of artificial intelligence globally, and embodies the ambitious Emirati approach in harnessing technology to serve humanity, and providing extensive experience and an exceptional strategic vision to the Council on the future of artificial intelligence, its ethical practices, and its contribution, which constitutes a qualitative addition to our international efforts, and we are grateful for his partnership as we continue to build a global and comprehensive framework that guarantees the fair and responsible use of this technology.
Established in December 2023, the Artificial Intelligence Ethics Council includes elite leaders in the fields of civil rights, education, technology, business, government, and ethics. It aims to ensure the representation of communities in the development of artificial intelligence, and seeks to establish a framework for developing artificial intelligence in a responsible, inclusive, and equitable manner, while exploring how technology can be used to enhance economic opportunities for underserved communities.
