Cooperation between Khalifa University and"Guangzhou" China to establish a joint innovation laboratory

ABU DHABI, 8 December / WAM / Khalifa University of Science and Technology announced today the signing of an agreement with the Chinese Guangzhou Baiyun Electrical Equipment Company to establish a joint innovation laboratory and cooperate in research and development in the fields of sustainable energy and electrical technologies.

The agreement was signed by His Excellency Professor Ibrahim Al Hajri, President of Khalifa University, and Zhao Hu, President of Guangzhou Baiyun Company.

The cooperation includes developing academic industrial projects designed to meet the needs of the Arabian Gulf region with regard to electricity networks, integrating renewable energy and storage systems, advanced power electronics, hybrid electricity networks between alternating and direct current, supplying the transportation sector with electricity, green hydrogen applications, and the seamless integration between data systems and energy systems supported by artificial intelligence.

The cooperation also includes training for Khalifa University students, technical exchange between the two parties, and joint seminars in which relevant parties in the industrial sector participate.

The Advanced Energy Research Center at Khalifa University is a center for technological research and development for Guangzhou Baiyun Company, which will have the opportunity to benefit from the center’s laboratories and involve its researchers in developing joint research projects between the industrial and academic sectors. The center will also have the opportunity to benefit from the company’s laboratories to achieve complete integration between the two partners.

His Excellency Professor Ibrahim Al Hajri said: This partnership, by making the most of what Guangzhou Baiyun products provide and the technical resources and expertise possessed by the Advanced Energy Research Center at Khalifa University, contributes to accelerating the strategic transformation of energy systems and unleashing the potential to market these systems in the Arab Gulf region and globally.

For his part, Dijao Ho said: This partnership with Khalifa University is a very important strategic milestone, and we are fully committed to translating this vision into reality and leveraging our combined strengths in the industrial and academic sectors to create synergies to stimulate our joint expansion in the Arabian Gulf region and the global market.

Khalifa University students receive summer training opportunities and joint training in the industrial and research facilities of Guangzhou Baiyun Company, ensuring the exchange of knowledge and the development of skills that support the ongoing transformations in the energy sector in the Middle East region.

The agreement also includes an annual training program to qualify at least five experts specialized in energy equipment technology each year, in addition to joint technical lectures and seminars for stakeholders in the industrial sector in the UAE.
