The Council’s President, Rawhi Fattouh, said – in a statement today, Monday – that the storming of the headquarters, carrying out extensive searches inside it, and detaining security guards Seizing their phones and preventing communication with them in light of the complete closure of the area represents a blatant violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, and a clear violation of its resolutions, especially Security Council Resolution No. 2730 issued on May 24, 2024, which requires states to respect and protect United Nations institutions and humanitarian workers, which applies directly to UNRWA, its employees and facilities.

He added, “What happened reaffirms that East Jerusalem is an occupied city in accordance with the provisions of international law and resolutions.” international legitimacy, and that the presence of the occupation forces there does not give them any legitimacy or right to storm the headquarters of UN bodies or interfere in their work, which makes all of these practices grave violations that violate the legal status of the city and the rights of its Palestinian residents.”

He stressed that this behavior reflects behavior outside international legitimacy and calls for immediate and effective international action to hold the Israeli occupation accountable for its repeated violations, and to hold accountable those responsible for these attacks that affect the Palestinian people and their national institutions. And internationalism. He called on the international community and its competent institutions to take practical steps to ensure the protection of UNRWA and other international bodies operating in the Palestinian Territory, and to put an end to the attacks that have become a direct threat to the safety of its employees and its humanitarian missions.
