The former Shin Bet head stresses the necessity of forming an independent committee to investigate the failures of the October attacks instead of the Netanyahu committee

 Ronen Bar, former head of the General Security Service in Israel (Shin Bet), called on the Israeli government to form an official investigation committee to uncover the failures of October 7, stressing that the internal investigation conducted by the Shin Bet was insufficient. 

Bar stressed – according to the “Times of Israel” newspaper: – However, real responsibility requires the formation of what is called a “state” committee. – Official – Independent, in which the full story is told and steps for reform are identified to prevent the recurrence of the disaster. 

 

Barr stressed that true leadership does not stop at taking responsibility for failure only, but rather at correcting mistakes. 

 

Barr’s call came in the face of the position of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who announced the formation of a “broad national committee,” criticizing the idea of a committee  

 

Opponents believe that this committee does not have real independence nor the necessary investigative powers, which makes its results questionable, especially since the government that was responsible for the failures itself will lead the investigation.

 

Barr stressed that the families of the victims and the public deserve a transparent and real investigation, warning that not fully investigating the entire system exposes Israel to the risk of repeating such incidents. October 7, considering that Netanyahu’s move represents an attempt to beautify failures instead of revealing the truth and holding those responsible accountable.
