Can dialogue save a divided world? The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations confirms this

On December 14 and 15, Riyadh will host the 11th Forum of the Alliance, which brings together representatives of governments, civil society, young leaders, women peacemakers, and the media.

The forum’s slogan summarizes its goal and what it will focus on: “Two Decades of Dialogue for Humanity – Advancing a New Era of Mutual Respect and Understanding in a Multipolar World.”

Why do you care about the meeting?

Around the world, intolerance and xenophobia are on the rise, and cultural and religious differences are used to justify violence and exclusion. Hate speech, especially online, is on the rise, deepening mistrust and undermining social harmony.

Why was the alliance founded?

The 11th Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations will include several events, including:

A high-level meeting of the so-called Group of Friends of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, which now includes 161 members.

Youth Forum that highlights participants in the coalition’s programs who have led change in their communities.

Specialized sessions on urgent issues including: AI-driven disinformation, women on the front lines of peace, migration and human dignity, and combating hate speech.

PLURAL+ Film Festival, which celebrates the creative voices of young video makers in the areas of immigration and the fight against xenophobia.

What are the expected results?

The Forum is expected to adopt the Riyadh Declaration, conclude partnerships and agreements for 2026 and beyond, in addition to developing recommendations for the Forum’s action plan for the period between 2027 and 2031.

After 20 years of work, the coalition affirms its clear message: dialogue is not a luxury, but a lifeline for humanity in an increasingly fragmented world.
