Health closes 9 unlicensed obstetrics and gynecology centers in Cairo and Giza

The Ministry of Health and Population closed 9 private medical centers for obstetrics and gynecology in Cairo and Giza governorates for not adhering to the medical rules and principles regulating caesarean sections, and violating licensing conditions and infection control policies, as part of the ministry’s efforts to reduce medically unjustified caesarean sections and encourage safe natural birth.
The decision comes in implementation of the directives of Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, to intensify Oversight of private medical facilities, and ensuring the application of health standards approved by the Egyptian Health Council in accordance with the latest international guidelines.
An extensive inspection campaign carried out by joint committees from the Central Administration of Non-Governmental Treatment Institutions and Licensing, with the participation of university professors and obstetrics and gynecology specialists, resulted in the closure of the following facilities in Cairo (6 centres)
Dar Al-Um Specialized Center for Women, Obstetrics and Infertility– Mokattam
Sama Maternity Center – Al-Basateen
Al-Hana Center for Obstetrics and Gynecology – New Cairo
Ganna Women’s Center for Obstetrics and Gynecology – Ain Shams
Eva Center for Obstetrics and Gynecology – Al-Marj
Hawa Medical Center for Obstetrics, Gynecology and IVF – Ain Shams and Giza (3 centers)
Aman Maternity Center – October 6
Fouad Al-Dabbah Center for Birth and Infertility – Al-Warraq
Nasser Center for Obstetrics and Gynecology – Al-Haram
A final warning was also issued to the Dr. Center. Muhammad Magdi Shafiq in Al-Omraniyah, with a two-week deadline to reconcile conditions related to maintaining equipment and dealing with medical waste.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesman for the ministry, and Dr. Hisham Zaki, head of the central administration of non-governmental therapeutic institutions, confirmed that the closed centers lacked infection control standards and ignored environmental and clinical requirements, which exposes mothers and newborns to serious health risks.
They stressed the continuation of intensive monitoring campaigns. At the republic level, within the presidential initiative “The Thousand Golden Days for the Development of the Egyptian Family,” with the aim of raising the quality of obstetrics and gynecology services in the private sector and protecting the health of mothers and children.
The Ministry of Health and Population calls on all private medical facilities to fully adhere to health standards and requirements and cooperate with inspection committees, in support of national efforts to raise the level of health care provided to citizens.
