Egypt reviews its pioneering experience in confronting the challenges of international humanitarian law in the Arab League

The activities of the thirteenth meeting of the Arab National Committees for International Humanitarian Law concluded today in Cairo, which was hosted by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States over the course of the eighth and ninth days of December.

The opening session was chaired by Counselor Adnan Al-Fangari, Minister of Justice and Chairman of the National Committee for International Humanitarian Law in Egypt, with the participation of Assistant Secretary-General Dr. Hussein Al-Hindawi, and the heads of the Arab National Committees.

Counsel Nasr Al-Din Al-Marouk from the Algerian Ministry of Justice stressed, in statements on the sidelines of the meeting, the The meeting comes in extremely sensitive circumstances, in light of the unprecedented violations of international law targeting civilians and the use of new weapons and technologies such as artificial intelligence and drones, stressing that the conflicts in some Arab countries represent a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, and that war has moved from Earth to space.

Over the course of two days, the meeting discussed new challenges facing international humanitarian law, such as cyberattacks and the use of modern technologies in armed conflicts.

The meeting witnessed a review of the experiences of Arab countries in the courses of action within the global initiative. To renew political commitment to international humanitarian law, Egypt presented its experience in the course of action related to international humanitarian law and naval warfare.

Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Algeria also presented their experiences with courses of action that include good practices in the field of preventing violations and protecting infrastructure. In conclusion, the regional action plan for implementing international humanitarian law in the Arab countries for the period 2025-2027 was discussed, and the participants thanked Egypt and the Arab League for the good hosting.
